As he passed the door of a cottage built in the forest, he heard a Mother say to her child, “Be quiet, or I will throw you out of the window, and the Wolf shall eat you.”The Wolf sat all day waiting at the door. In the evening he heard the same woman fondling her child and saying: “You are quiet now, and if the Wolf should come, we will kill him.”The Wolf, hearing these words, went home, gasping with cold and hunger. When he reached his den, Mistress Wolf inquired of him why he returned wearied and supperless, so contrary to his wont. He replied: “Why, forsooth! use I gave credence to the words of a woman! 早晨，一头饥肠辘辘的狼正在四处觅食。当它经过森林里一个小屋的门口时，听到一位母亲对她的孩子说：“安静点儿，要不然我就把你从窗户扔出去，让狼把你吃掉。”狼坐在门外，等了一整天。到了晚上，它又听到那位母亲边爱抚她的孩子边说道：“现在你安静了，如果狼来了，我们就把它杀死。”狼听到这些话后，饥寒交迫、气喘吁吁地跑回家去了。狼回到洞穴后，母狼问它为什么疲惫不堪的，还没带晚饭回来，如此反常。狼回答道：“唉，是啊！谁叫我相信一个女人的话呢！” ## Images 1.
