And China has one of the richest, most complex civilizations in the world. From dynasties and philosophy to revolutions and modern innovation — there’s always something to study and appreciate. Every time I meet Chinese people, whether here in Washington, D.C. or online, they’re kind and respectful. Sure, there are misconceptions — but I don’t assume racism just because someone doesn’t understand something. That kind of reaction doesn’t help anybody. Instead of assumptions, we need conversations. When someone misunderstands, I talk. When I see unfair hate toward Chinese people, I speak up. Not because I’m a leftist, not because I want clout — but because it’s the right thing to do. I’ll always stand by Chinese people when I see them misrepresented. I want to be part of a world where Black and Asian people uplift each other — not tear each other down based on stereotypes or headlines. We both know what it means to be misunderstood. So why not build bridges instead of repeating the same cycles? No culture is perfect, but reducing 1.4 billion people to one hateful stereotype is lazy, ignorant, and wrong. I’m proud to be a Black man who loves China, who has real Chinese friends, and who believes in Black-Asian unity.
