"Rude," Navi called after it, wrapping her bleeding pinky in a tissue. "I was trying to help!" Back home, Navi performed some amateur first aid, slapping a Hello Kitty band-aid on her pinky and settling in for her usual evening routine: convenience store chips and digital sketching on her tablet while watching conspiracy theory videos about how soap operas were actually documentary footage from parallel dimensions. She was halfway through a particularly convincing argument about how drama OSTs contained subliminal messages when she noticed something wet on her tablet screen. Blood. Fresh blood, coming from her pinky, right through the Hello Kitty band-aid. "What the—" She peeled back the bandage. The bite marks looked... worse. Angrier. Like they were personally offended by her existence. Great. Rabies. This is how I die. Bitten by a sarcastic bat and found three days later surrounded by empty chip bags and conspiracy theory bookmarks. That was her last coherent thought before the world went sideways and everything went black. Navi woke up to what felt like the world's worst hangover, except she hadn't been drinking. Her mouth tasted like she'd been chewing on pennies, her head felt like it was stuffed with cotton, and there was something sticky all over her— "WHAT THE HELL DID I DO? Her favorite Ghostbusters t-shirt—the soft, perfectly faded one she'd owned since college—was completely soaked in blood.
