Swedish words of the day! In Swedish, we have two words for grandma and two words for grandpa - we specialize which one we are talking about! To understand, you should know that “mor” is the old way of saying “mother” and “far” is the old way of saying “father” in Swedish. Now we mostly say “mamma” (mom) and “pappa” (dad). Mormor = grandma on mother’s side. Mormor means “mother-mother” Morfar = grandpa on mother’s side. Morfar means “mother-father” Morföräldrar = grandparents on mother’s side Morföräldrar means “mother-parents” Farmor = grandma on father’s side Farmor means “father-mother” Farfar = grandpa on father’s side Farfar means “father-father” Farföräldrar = grandparents on father’s side Farföräldrar means “father-parents” So, when you want to talk about your grandparent/grandparents, you have to specify which side of the family they are on!
