Si alguna vez escuchaste a alguien decir “I’m about to leave” y no supiste exactamente qué quiso decir, aquí te lo explicamos. La expresión “be about to + verbo” se usa para hablar de algo que está a punto de suceder, algo que ocurrirá muy pronto, en un futuro inmediato. 🔸 Estructura básica Forma Ejemplo ✅ Afirmativa I am about to go. ❌ Negativa She is not about to cry. ❓ Interrogativa Are you about to leave? 🔸 ¿Cuándo usar “be about to”? Usamos esta estructura cuando: 📌 Algo va a pasar en unos momentos: ✅ I'm about to go to Rome for a conference. 🔵 Estoy a punto de irme a Roma para una conferencia. → Significa que ya casi me voy, es inminente. 🔸 ¿Y en negativo? La forma negativa indica que no tienes intención de hacer algo, ni ahora ni pronto: ✅ I'm not about to cancel my trip. 🔵 No pienso cancelar mi viaje. → Es una forma más fuerte que simplemente decir I'm not cancelling..., porque resalta que ni siquiera lo estoy considerando. 🔸 Diferencia con “going to” o “will” • Be about to es más inmediato que going to o will. ✴️ I'm about to call her. (Lo haré ahora mismo) ✴️ I'm going to call her. (Lo haré pronto, ya lo decidí) ✴️ I'll call her later. (Lo haré, pero no necesariamente pronto) 🔸 Ejemplos prácticos ✔️ The show is about to start. 🔵 El espectáculo está por comenzar. ✔️ She’s about to cry. 🔵 Está a punto de llorar. ✔️ We were about to eat when the phone rang. 🔵 Estábamos a punto de comer cuando sonó el teléfono. 🗣 Ejemplo: A: Hey, can we talk now? B: I’m about to head into a meeting. Can we talk in 30 minutes? 🔵 (Estoy por entrar a una reunión. ¿Podemos hablar en 30 minutos?) A: Sure, no problem. B: Thanks!
