Recently, many Americans(referred to as “TikTok refugees“)have started flocking to Chinese apps like "RedNote". And some Chinese abbreviations which are made from Chinese PinYin and numbers can be quite helpful when foreigners communicate with Chinese people. I tried to write some of them I frequently use or encounter. XSWL: from "笑死我了", means "laughed to death". Maybe it's a little like "LOL" in English? YYDS: from "永远的神", means someone or something is exceptionally good, almost god-like. 818: from "扒一扒", means to gossip or talk about the details of something. 9494: from “就是就是”, means “that's right” or “exactly”. U1S1: from "有一说一", means speaking frankly or being honest about something. BBQ: it doesn't mean barbeque at all, it means you're screwed or you're doomed.
