English tip of the day! I've talked about idioms in English so now let's focus on Proverbs. Are they the same? No. Idioms are used to emphasise a meaning when speaking but proverbs are used to teach a lesson. Some examples: ☆"When in Rome do as the Romans do." This proverb means when you go to a different country do as the locals do! Respect the other culture even if it is strange to you. You're a visitor in another country so be polite 🙂 ☆"Every cloud has a silver lining." This means even if something bad happens you might learn something new. ☆"Look before you leap." This means to be careful before you act. Proverbs are life lessons used in conversation and sometimes non native English speakers can get confused if they take the literal meaning. I can imagine someone thinking "when in Rome? But I'm not going to Rome." It's not literal, it's just advice about a situation. Learning some common adverbs can help build your English skills to sound more fluent 😁
