風花雪月 (fuukasetsugetsu ふうかせつげつ) A lot of my Japanese friends told me it means beautiful scenery. But in classic Chinese literature, the expression means insincerity or betrayal/infidelity in romance. It reminds me of the Fire Emblem Three Houses video game. When former classmates become enemies in the battlefield and try to kill each other. When lovers betray and show their true feelings. Time changes and seasons change. The shallow and superficial affect melt away like snow, unveiling hatred and betraying true feelings. What once believed to be the perfect romance turned out to be unrequited. The cruel metaphor of changing times, nature and short-lived affect is beautiful just like the wind, blooming flowers, snow and the full moon.
