I went to Nikko Toshogu Shrine. 日光東照宮に行ってきました⛩️ The Nikko Tosho-gu is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu 日光東照宮は徳川家康公を祀っています A rare place where a shrine and a temple are located together 神社とお寺が一緒にある珍しい場所です The stone pillars of the "Toshogu" shrine on the main approach are inscribed with the words written by Shibusawa Eiichi, the face of the 10,000 yen bill.表参道の「東照宮」の石柱には、一万円札の顔である渋沢栄一が書いた文字が刻まれています There are a total of 12 white pillars supporting the gate. 陽明門を支える柱は全部で12本あります One of white pillar is upside down. これらの柱の内1本は上下が逆さまになっています Taking advantage of the tradition that "a building begins to collapse as soon as it is completed," the pillars are intentionally left in an unfinished state to ward off evil spirits. 「建物は完成と同時に崩壊が始まる」という伝承を逆手にとり、わざと柱を未完成の状態にすることで魔除けの意味があります Just behind this sculpture are two sparrows, and it is said that the sparrows feel safe when the cat is asleep, that is, they wish for that much peace in the world. この彫刻の後ろ側には２羽の雀の彫刻がありますが、猫が眠っていると雀が安心していられる、つまりそのくらい世の中が平和であることを願ったものだと言われています。
