Recently, I visited both Hong Kong and Macao, where I endeavored to communicate in English though I encountered some difficulties. 1. Since the units of HKD (Hong Kong Dollar) and CNY (Chinese Yuan) is the same in Chinese-"元 (yuan)", I felt confused during my first shopping experience in Hong Kong when they referred to HKD as "dollar" and CNY as "yuan" in English. 2. After ordering a Hong Kong-style milk tea, I suddenly realized that I was only speaking Mandarin with the staff. Promptly, I proposed we switch to English for communication. This sparked a cheerful exchange, both the staff and another guest chuckled, and I joined in their laughter. After that, the guest began conversing with me in English. 3. On an evening near Victoria Harbour, I found myself lost after draining my phone battery from taking numerous photos. A kind local guided me back to my hotel despite his limited Mandarin proficiency. In retrospect, I realized I was so anxious that I forgot I could speak some English- a reminder for me to practice more. The vacation was truly unforgettable. The delicious food, friendly people, and breathtaking views more than made up for any issues. These experiences significantly motivated me to enhance my English skills. 1-5 Hong Kong⬇️ 6-9 Macao⬇️
