Since I bought it anyway, I ate it to find out what it tasted like. What does purple cake taste like? I thought it would be grape-flavored, but it turned out to be a sweet potato! Fun fact: Purple cakes are often made with ube (in the Philippines) or 紫芋 (murasaki imo) in Japan — both are types of purple sweet potatoes with a gentle, creamy, slightly nutty flavor. Not very sugary, but deliciously smooth and natural!
