A few days ago, I told this story to my Canadian friend. She liked it very much. There are two kind of bean sprouts. Koreans perceive these two as different types. 콩나물 are shown in the picture on the left and 숙주나물 are shown on the right. 나물 means vegetable. The origin of 숙주나물's name is real person's name. He is 신숙주. He was a famous scholar and official during the 조선 Dynasty. He also worked with king 세종 to create 한글. But he later joined the rebellion that the king's uncle caused. 숙주나물 go bad quickly. People thought he easily threw away the royalties, so they named 숙주나물 after him.
