In Chinese, we don’t describe someone who doesn’t speak up or stand up for themselves as a “doormat,” but rather as a 🌟包子 (bāozi) , a steamed bun with fillings. There’s also a colloquial saying that goes: 🌟是包子就别嫌狗惦记 (shì bāozi jiù bié xián gǒu diànjì) (If you’re a steamed bun, don’t complain about dogs eyeing you.) (In other words: If you act like a doormat, don’t be surprised when people walk all over you.) 🌟Example: 他都那么欺负你了，你还忍气吞声。你是包子吗？算了，是包子就别嫌狗惦记。 （Tā dōu nàme qīfù nǐ le, nǐ hái rěnqìtūnshēng. Nǐ shì bāozi ma? Suàn le, shì bāozi jiù bié xián gǒu diànjì.） “He’s been bullying you like that and you are just putting up with it? Are you a “steamed bun”? Fine, if you’re a steamed bun, don’t complain when dogs come after you.”
