What’s your favorite temple? Mine is Eiheiji (永平寺). Eiheiji is located in Fukui Prefecture, which is also famous for dinosaurs. I’ve visited many temples so far, but Eiheiji was the most beautiful one, and I really loved its calm and peaceful atmosphere. The ceiling has stunning paintings that are absolutely gorgeous. Sadly, some temples feel too much like tourist spots and can be really crowded, but Eiheiji isn’t like that. The structure, the stairs, and the gardens — everything was just perfect. Also, I saw some monks in training (修行僧), which is something you don’t usually get to see at other temples. You can get to Fukui Prefecture by shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo — it takes about 3 hours. By the way, Eiheiji is not only the name of the temple but also the name of the town (Eiheiji Town / 永平寺町). I hope you’ll have a wonderful experience if you visit there!
