I'm doing some revision for the JLPT. The Kango words 午前 and 午後 can be interpreted based on their kanji as: 午前 = "noon before" (before noon) 午後 = "noon after" (after noon) Similarly, in Tamil: முற்பகல் = before noon பிற்பகல் = after noon And the Wago word 夕方 can be interpreted as: 夕方 = "dusky direction" or "evening time" In Tamil, this corresponds to: சாயும் காலம் = "leaning time" (loosely referring to dusky time) These parallels among Tamil, Japanese, Chinese, and neighboring languages seem to weave them into a single thread. It makes the "Proto-World" hypothesis feel more real. Language learning truly opens many gates - after all, we are all human. ✌️
