Before the journey, there is intention. Pranamasana (Prayer Pose) and Samastitihi (Equal Standing Pose) may look simple—but they are the essence of presence, humility, and inner readiness. You’ll often see Pranamasana at the beginning of Sun Salutations, hands pressed together at the heart—Anjali Mudra—symbolizing union and reverence. Samastitihi, meanwhile, is the posture of standing with equal weight and balanced awareness, physically and mentally ready for practice, life, or devotion. In Sanskrit, “Sama” means equal, and “Sthiti” means stability or stillness. In Yoga, this is where we remember: we are already whole. Benefits: • Improves posture and balance • Grounds the nervous system • Cultivates inner focus and mindfulness • Teaches the art of pause before action • Encourages breath-body awareness and presence Wisdom from the Texts: Patanjali reminds us in Sutra 2.46: “Sthira Sukham Asanam” – A posture should be steady and comfortable. Samastitihi is that sutra. The Bhagavad Gita also calls us toward balance: “Yoga is balance in action.” Today’s Practice Recommendation: • Begin and end your practice in Samastitihi or Pranamasana • Stand for 10–20 slow breaths, eyes closed or softly gazing ahead • Feel the ground beneath your feet, the breath in your body, the stillness behind the movement This pose is a mirror. It shows you your alignment, your breath, your thoughts. It asks nothing from you except that you be here—fully, quietly, without distraction.
