Estas dos regiones, ubicadas en la Costa Caribe, tienen una historia, cultura y organización distintas al resto del país. Mientras que en la parte occidental la mayoría de la población es mestiza y habla español, en la RAAN y la RAAS conviven diversos grupos étnicos como los miskitos, garífunas, creoles y otros, que también hablan sus propias lenguas. la RAAN y la RAAS tienen un estatus especial de autonomía reconocido por la Constitución de Nicaragua desde los años 80. Esto les permite tomar ciertas decisiones locales de forma independiente, algo que no ocurre en otras partes del país. Esa autonomía, sumada a las diferencias históricas, culturales y geográficas, refuerza la idea de que Nicaragua se ve como dos realidades muy distintas dentro de un mismo territorio nacional. ## Images 1.
