ENG, Lesson 3 ( B1- Intermediate level ) 💟 Understanding First conditional sentences ( Hypothetical situation ) Let's understand with the help of an example - 1. If we don't set a date ( Possible situation ) none of the guest will come. ( It's consequences ) Note - The first conditional sentences introduces "a possible situation" and "it's consequences" We often use first conditional to talk about events that could occur in present or future, and what will happen as a result of those events. For possible situation - we use "If" + Present simple And for consequences - we use , Future simple auxiliary verb like - "will" Another example - We won't be able to go ( Consequences ) if we don't RSVP soon. ( Possible situation ). ------------------------------- 1. If she thinks it's a good idea, I'll look for a local DJ. ( 1st half is possible situation ) 2. What will we do if it rains? ( 1st half is consequence ) 3. Dad won't be happy if his family can't come. ( We use will / won't + infinitive to about the future consequences of an event ) Note - Instead of "If" we can use "when" And instead of "will" we can also use " may / might / could / should". 💟 More examples - 1. If there's a DJ, people might dance. 2. We'll be able to create a seating plan when we have a guest list. 3. When we arrive at the party, we'll ask Lucy how her holiday was. 4. If the weather's good, we'll camp outside. 5. If the samples are bad, we will not use this caterer. --------------------------- Alright, let's call it a day.
