Estos artículos acompañan a los sustantivos y nos indican su género (masculino o femenino) y número (singular o plural). Por ejemplo, decimos el libro (masculino, singular) o las casas (femenino, plural). Los artículos se dividen así: el se usa con sustantivos masculinos singulares, la con femeninos singulares, los con masculinos plurales y las con femeninos plurales. Normalmente, las palabras que terminan en -o son masculinas (el perro), y las que terminan en -a son femeninas (la mesa), aunque hay excepciones como el día o la mano. En chino (mandarín), no existen artículos como "el" o "la". Por ejemplo, en chino se dice “书在桌子上” (Shū zài zhuōzi shàng), que en español sería “El libro está sobre la mesa”. En español no se puede decir solo “libro está sobre la mesa”; hay que usar el artículo el para que la frase sea correcta. Por eso, es importante que al aprender una nueva palabra en español, también memorices su artículo. Así, en lugar de aprender solo “niña”, debes aprender “la niña”; en vez de solo “perro”, aprender “el perro”.
