Do you know what the difference is between “may” and “can”? I saw a post related to this so decided to try and explain, but even if you don’t understand, don’t worry. Often they are used interchangeably in real life English. can = Ability “Can you run?” This is the same as asking: “Do you have the physically ability to run?” may = Permission “May I run?” This is the same as asking: “Is it ok for me to run?” Often English speaking use “can” when it should be “may”. For example: “Can I leave work early?” Of course it is physically possible to leave early. In this case “may” is the syntactically correct way but “can” is often used.
