One of my

hobbies is hunting for intriguing stones and interesting fossils. My interest in stones started when I was 10 years old when my Dad would take me rock hunting to find semi precious stones so that he could polish them and create jewellery. I still have one of the necklaces that he made then. It is made of a stone called tiger eye. My son has caught the same interest as me and he has a collection of stones from all around the world. As a special present for my son I will put a stone in his stocking at Christmas time. On occasion we will go fossil hunting. There is a fabulous beach near my parents house which has some of the best fossils in New Zealand. There is a waterfall at the beach which is eroding the cliffs away and the cliffs of full of fossils. The fossils then land on the beach and then are washed into the sea.

@한결 Julian Oh very good. UoA in New Zealand? I studied earth science as part of my first degree and loved it. I wish I had changed my major from ecology to earth science. I have always been fascinated by the natural hazards in New Zealand.

@한결 Julian Fantastic😄. That must have been so interesting. For part of my second degree I studied potential risk to old people from tsunamis in the Bay of Plenty caused by the Hikurangi subduction zone.

@Irek Thank you☺. I actually have a book called fossil hunting in New Zealand which shows us the best places to go. I was very surprised when I discovered the beach near my parents home was in the book. İt took a while to be able to see the fossils in the rocks. To be able to identify them.

@babak ohhh, now you have got me intrigued. What is it like sleeping in the forest at night in your country? We have no wild animals to worry about in NZ so I always wonder about other countries 😄
