Where better place

to start than with the classic Christmas advent calendar.

A typical advent calendar will look like the picture below, but they were first used by German Lutherans in the 19th Century, and used to contain bible verses behind each door (shown in picture 4).

Now they are more likely to hold tiny pieces of delicious chocolate, and are a great way for children (and adults) to get into the spirit of Christmas and to start the countdown towards the big day.
