Hello everyone!

My English tip for today is on the phrase “lighten

up.” “lighten up” means relax-don’t take things so seriously.

For example: My friend wouldn’t smile all day today because there was a quiz in math later, she really needs to lighten up!

I hope you found this helpful! Thanks guys!

@Ben thanks for sharing Engliah tips. I have a question. Why does "there was" (past tenese) and then "later" (future expression) ?

@Helina I think you mean “take it easy” they are very similar but “take it easy” means relax - slow down - don’t be so aggressive - be more laid back.

@Daniel “was” is what makes “there was” past tense. Think of it like Was = past tense Is = present tense Will be = future tense Later is a little different - means simply after the time noted in the subject matter in the sentence. For example - Ben: Sarah I thought you had your dentist appointment all morning yesterday? Sarah: no I had my meeting first - the dentist appointment was later In this context the dentist appointment was still yesterday so in the past and we know this based off the usage of the word “was” before the word “later”

Could "Because there will be a test in math later" be possible? Due to at the time you say it the test is not taken yet.
