This is my first moment post. So I hope it goes well. One thing

I think is confusing for people about America, is the way we use the English language.

This is not a question to be answered. it is a type of word play, or just pointing out how some words that are used do not make logical sense.

So here goes:

Why do you Drive on a Parkway, but Park on a Driveway?

This is not meant to be answered. It is took make you think why did someone come up with a silly turn of phrase.

Definitions:

Parkway- an open landscaped highway.

Driveway- a short road leading from a public road to a house or garage.

I added photos to show the example of both words. I hope I did not confuse you. Somethings you just have to laugh and say "What?"

Have A Great Day Everyone😊

@Vivek we park on something. A lot of other languages will say in but we do not. Not in American English. We park on the blacktop, we park on the side of the road. Trust me it is the way Americans use it. I am not sure how other native English speaking countries use it. But in America we use it this way. Which makes English even harder. Because in America we use different terms then the Brits or Aussies do.b

@Vivek thank you for that. I appreciate it. I am still telling you how we say it here. It is a play on words or a joke if you will. We still say it that way here.

@Vivek thank you use any source you want. I am still going say the same thing because it is a play on words. It is how we say it. So those articles written to explain perfect English. Which we don't always speak perfect English here in America. Which is something should learn. We don't always follow the rules. My spelling isn't always correct, especially since autocorrect has been around. But my explanation of American English is very good. I use to be an English literature major. So I know the proper English rules. I am trying to exchange my culture. It is different and it was a play on words that isn't meant to follow the rules. It was meant to make you laugh.

@Vivek you was actually going to respond to this, in not a very nice way. Because you totally insulted me. It's fine live in your ignorance and don't follow me then. Read the dictionary then, it will surely get you far.

@Jen Kirby no I was not going to insult you... You know you are right you must have grown up hearing that thing... But as a learner dictionaries really help me a lot... I am really sorry if you feel insulted

@Vivek sorry I am not in the best mood I am sorry too. Dictionaries are great for learning vocabulary. They really are. But America is a huge country. Not everyone here, who are born and raised here speak the same. So people in some areas of the country I can't even understand myself. You can't get more American and white then me. So that is one thing I say over and over in my posts. Even amongst native speakers there are differences that a dictionary isn't going to tell you. Plus if you speak English to a native speaker in certain ways they might not respond well to you. Especially if you tell them the dictionary says it means this. People use the same words to mean different things. Like we sad oh that is so bad. And we are meaning the word Bad is very very good. Which is the opposite of the meaning in the dictionary.
