Here is a continuation on the lesson about phrasal verbs with

the word “up”.

In these examples, “up” is used to mean “to make better” or “to get better”.

Cheer up: to feel better or to make another person feel better.
Examples:
- I wish you didn’t look so sad. Cheer up!
(In this sentence, “cheer up!” means “feel better!”
- Maybe some ice cream would cheer her up.

Freshen up: used when you make yourself feel clean by washing your face and brushing your teeth.
Examples:
- The girl just went for a run, so she is going to go freshen up.
- After a long day at school, I usually freshen up by changing my clothes and brushing my teeth.

Talk up: used when exaggerating something in a very positive way. When you talk something up, you’re focusing on the good qualities.
Examples:
- She always talks up her boyfriend and makes him seem like the best person in the world.
- Lillian really talks up that restaurant. I hope they serve good food.
