"PHILISTINE"

someone who doesn't care and has no appreciation

about the high value of good art, music, and literature; Lack or refuses to see the beauty of intellectual pursuits, aesthetic, and cultural values. In short, narrow minded in views and tastes.

Examples:
1. I wouldn't have expected them to enjoy a film of that quality anyway. They're just a bunch of philistines!
2. Only a philistine would destroy such a priceless portrait!

@Rawan Well.. Philistine has two different meanings but it isn't Palestine and the meanings also unrelated to one and another. So yeh.

@M. I was wondering if they had similar origin.. because they sounded nearly the same! And it happens though the evolved word is Germanic, it roots Philistine which is people of Philistia which is Palestine!.. and it was biblical thing to display them as crude and war-like.. so the enemies of the Jews. Then an incident in Germany back in 17century caused the use of the word to certain enemies( so they gave it new meaning of enemy of intellectual and education, something like that).. and in 1800s it got into English use and meaning that you wrote.. Palestinians, as middle easterners, are and were very sophisticated, elegent and civilized people.. And the word sounds now racistic one as Barbarian and neanderthal are..

@Amina Well.. the current definition has moved away from Biblical allusion so stating the origins are definitely sketchy. So yeh.. for me there's no relation or whatsoever but if you have your own opinion then ok you do have your right.
