Excerpt from Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth

by Grant Morrison and Dave McKean.

I take to patrolling the corridors between the hours of three and four in the morning.

I visit the secret room often in order that I might keep my journal up to date.

Routine is important I think. A good routine diverts the mind from morbid imaginings..

Sometimes I am sure I hear hysterical laughter from a cell I know to be empty.

My movements through the house have become as formalized as ballet and I feel that I have become an essential part of some incomprehensible process.

The house is a living thing, hungry for madness.

It is the maze that dreams.

And I am lost.

@john Haha. 😁, Yep, they are from the graphic novel.

@Shamus Are the images you included from the graphic novel? Haha I imagined something more in line with the Batman comics from my kid days (though I was wondering how the artist could fit so many words in the word balloon)

@john Yep and it's especially interesting when you realise it's a collaborative effort between the writer and the artist. I had more pictures but the app was censoring them for some strange reason and this was my third attempt at posting it. This graphic novel has a very unique nightmarish aesthetic. It's worth searching more images of it online.

@小黄冲冲冲Ying I don't want to spoil the story but this part happens after Amadeus Arkham has suffered some misfortune. He inherits a great mansion from his family and decides to turn it into an Asylum for the criminally insane. These portions I read are from his journal entries as he seemingly succumbs to madness himself.

Wow, thanks for sharing. That is some amazing writing from a place you’d never expect it. Little gems of words and meaning moving the visual art from frame to frame...(or vice versa?)
