“Steal someone’s thunder”

Have you ever had

some good news to share with others, only to have someone else ruin the surprise by sharing it themselves? This is a case of “stealing someone’s thunder.” Maybe you find out you are expecting to have a baby soon, and your mother tells everyone before you do. Another situation could be a coworker announces that she is pregnant when you were soon about to share that you were also pregnant. In both cases, this would be “stealing your thunder.”
