Can I go to the bathroom? Yes, you can but I am not allowing you to go right now.

May I go to the bathroom?

“Can” means able to. 能够。You are [physically] able to go to the bathroom.

“May” 你允许我去厕所吗?means do I have permission to go to the bathroom now?

Nice, one post helped me understand the difference among might, may and can. 👍👍👍👏👏👏

Oops, there is a typo. You might like the great post.

    Should I say you might is like the great post? Thanks in advance.

  • bellny

Thank you, got it (P.S.

    @马斯克粉丝 oh I get it!thanks for you reply!
Lifetime VIP

    @胡九 could I go to the bathroom 也有一样的问题好像can. May is the best when asking for permission
Lifetime VIP

It is a grammatically correct sentence when using “can” but that was not my intention when asking the teacher so it is inappropriate to use can here instead of may.

    @Rachel

    @Stephanie It would be foolish to do that是正确的。我不知道为什么因为我不是英文老师 could you help me?
  • sarah

    I guess that's also why we say "may I come in?"

  • Stephanie

    🙋🏻还有will和would的区别。 It would be foolish to do that. It will be foolish to do that. 还有could you help me? May you help me? Can I say that?
