I always used to make the mistake of translating a sentence directly

from English to Chinese. The problem with this is that the same sentence might not imply the same meaning and can be interpreted differently. Does that make sense?

我始终相信母语听众强大的理解力,无论英语还是汉语😄 I always believe in the strong comprehension of native speakers, whether English or Chinese

Yeah, definitely. I have the same problem as u. I’d been trying to translate Chinese into English. But I find the culture and the way of expression are quite different. That might be why the problem was always bothering me. The best way to learn Chinese is to communicate more with native speakers, learning their culture, the way of thinking and way of speaking. 加油!

It does make sence. as same as we use Google translate to translate English to Chinese. never trust the robot translation 100%.

You might have mixed up information and language. Translating is like extracting information from the box of language A, then wrap the same information into Box Language B. You need to be good at both languages to deliver funtional translation, except those very simple ones. Putting the meanings of words and phrases together only works in some cases.

Totally agree with CHSX; idioms and syntax are equally important, we could miss the information hidden behind the sentences sometimes if we’re not familiar with the cultural aspect.
