Today I met one of my students for lunch in Suwon (수원), and ateat one of the most famous restaurants for Hanwoo Beef (한우).
The Beef arrived at the table and was a beautiful color and quality. Then the side dishes arrived (반찬) and I was equally impressed. The variety of flavors in the side dishes all complimented each other and competed to be the star of the show. There was no clear winner.
Everything I tasted had a personality of their own. If I had to pick a winner, besides the beef, it would be the 양념게장 (seasoned raw crab) and the 된장찌개 (soybean paste stew).
I used to be in the food business and have always had extreme interest in food, but my student didn't know why Suwon is so famous for beef. Can anyone tell me why? What is your favorite dish in these pictures?
