Yōroppa de ichiban sukinabasho wa Amusuterudamudesu. Anata wa

dodesu ka

Is ichiban needed in this sentence? When sukinabasho means favourite place, would it make sense to remove ichiban?

ichiban means most. I think if you remove ichiban, your question will be changed a little bit.

"ichiban sukinabasho" means "the most favorite place". It works wothout "ichiban", but the meaning changes for just "favorite place". I hope this helps you.

Sukinabasho is a place which one’s like. Ichiban means “the best” “1st”. So if you remove it, it makes sense loosely.

It totally makes sense without “ichiban”. Ichiban means the best, so with ichiban, it means it’s the place you like the most in Europe. And when you remove it, readers might assume it’s one of the places you like in Europe👍
