Meaning: Last but

one, before the final one.

Example (1): “Saturday is the penultimate day of the week and November is the penultimate month of the year.”

Example (2): “I swear, I swear, I swear. The last guy was the penultimate one I’ll date before I get married because even though my ex was a total creep my current bae is so perf!
