@Ms Active Couch Potato Hi! 🙋 Good question. In my view, most are so rarely used, they don't even make it to English textbooks or any other written material such as websites, books, and others. If you use a corpus database (or even just Google) to search for "ate lunch" vs. "had lunch", I believe the frequency for "had lunch" will be a lot higher. They're similar to phrasal verbs, which means they're not lazy speech or slang--they're grammatically correct phrases in their own right. Like phrasal verbs, delexical verb combinations tend to be preferred by native speakers of English, rather than "plain old" verbs. That's all. 😉😄
