"how come

"??

"how come you went to school without your coat today??"

"how come" is used to ask how or why something has happened and is super informal but used on a daily basis in the UK. You can usually replace the word "Why" with "how come"and it will mean the same thing. It is a fixed expression so doesn't become "how came" etc, the expression is always "how come" whether you are talking about the past, present or future.

"how come you didn't do your homework?"

"how come your learning russian?

"So how come you missed the train?

    @Igor it's just another option to expand your vocabulary :) you don't need to use "how come" instead of "why" in any situation. It's just said a lot in casual conversation in the UK :)

    @Sara la expresión "how come" es " por qué " :) sé que "How" Usualmente significa "cómo" pero "How come" significa "por qué" :) "¿ por qué no viniste al cine?" En tu ejemplo :) How come you didn't come to the cinema :)

    @ L. so you can say "how come you moved to Canada without me" because " why I will move to Canada without you" doesn't sound natural :) I hope that helps :)
