A rather gloomy Sunday morning

with dark overcast skies gave way to a mostly pleasant afternoon. This is the peak of fall colors around here, so I had to take the opportunity to go out and take some interesting photos. A weather change brought colder temperatures (I think it reached maybe 12°C today) and chilly winds. Summer is definitely in the past, though there will still be warm days ahead. 

On the way back a herd of elk with a big bull tending to his harem crossed the road, but it was already too dark for pictures. Maybe I will get lucky on another day, the annual rut goes on through October. You can hear the elk bugling at night around the house. The sounds of nature are so lovely!
