Hey everyone!

I have another English phrase for you today!

The phrase is “beating around the bush” - this means to be talking about unimportant or other things to avoid talking about something particular or saying what’s on your mind.

Example: when John was giving his feedback to Sarah he kept beating around the bush because he was nervous to tell her what she did wrong.

does it mean that John is kind of afraid to tell the feedback straightly? and he is observing Sarah's reaction and then determine if tell the truth?

@小雄 sort of yes- it implies there is a reason John isn’t sharing what he really thinks

Thanks for sharing! Can I say like this? “I asked him to go out but he was beating around the bush because he has a girlfriend.”
