‼️⚠️ IDENTIFYING FAKE ENGLISH NATIVE SPEAKERS ⚠️‼️

There are

so many people on this app who claim they're native or fluent in English when they're clearly not. It's deeply irresponsible of them to mislead and confuse people who genuinely want to improve their English language skills.

I saw a post the other day written by a girl from India and even though her tips were 90% wrong, many beginners were thanking her for her help! 😵 I've also seen non-native speakers make corrections that were obviously incorrect.

⚠️‼️ WHAT TO LOOK FOR ⚠️‼️

🔹️ Poor grammar in their bio

🔹️ They make the same grammatical mistakes as you

🔹️ When you ask people to correct you and they say your writing is good/perfect (but then you find other people correcting your mistakes).

🔹️ They aren't able to re-word your sentences (I can guarantee you that almost all non-native/fluent speakers won't be able to do this. This suggests that they have a poor command of the language, have trouble naturally thinking in that language, and have not had enough conversations with other native speakers to be able to say or explain something in multiple ways.)

🔹️ They remove or add unnecessary words to their sentences, e.g., is, in, the. Example: I live in US ❌ vs. I live in *the* US ✅

🔹️ They remove or add unnecessary s' to the end of a word, e.g. peoples, let's talks, I like to watch drama ❌ vs. I like to watch dramas ✅

🔹️ When you ask for a definition and they give you the dictionary definition. (Native speakers should be able to define a word simply and give you examples. The only exception I see with this is when it comes to definitions of technical or advanced words that most people wouldn't use on a daily basis--acquiesce, mercurial, rebutted, etc.)

🔹️ They add spaces between words and punctuation marks:

- hi , my name is ___.
- Hello . i can teach you english.

🔹️ They make capitalization errors:

- Hi, My name is ___ and I want to learn ___. i can teach you English.
