I was feeling distressed yesterday and without anyone to talk

to about it I called an organisation known as Samaritans. The call was really helpful and I felt much better after it. In the UK anyone can call them and the call is completely confidential. The simple act of talking to another person and having them listen really helped me.

I hope that anyone who struggles with something can have the opportunity to speak to someone about it. Sometimes all we need is a patient and listening ear that we can share our struggles with. It saddens me to think of all the people who have been unable to do this.

I then read about Samaritans and discovered that the organisation was founded in 1953 by a vicar that learned about the tragic suicide of a fourteen year old girl who, having begun her first period, mistakenly feared that she had an STD. He later said "Little girl, I didn't know you, but you have changed the rest of my life for good." (Quote from Wikipedia.)

I believe organisations like this can play an important role in helping people who have nowhere else to turn.

I wondered about other countries too and so I want to ask if in your country there is an organisation like this?

So true. After you put the question out there it occurred to me to wonder... How many lives would be improved or even saved if people who needed assistance in introspecting themselves and their problems could get help before the crisis became a call to a suicide prevention line? So many lives could probably be greatly improved long term from the course corrections possible from objective and informed advice from people with broader experience & training than your average fumbling 20 year old. Not everyone who stops short of the suicide hotline crisis negotiated life’s difficulties successfully.

We have the same Organization in Taiwan called Teacher Chang, it’s well know in Taiwan because they propagandize it on TV, internet etc for many people, especially in news below. If people in bad situation, they or their friends and family will know how to find some ways to help if they need someone to talk to.... Eventually, I’m glad that you’ve got help! Nice😊

Indeed I feel the language exchange app could be an outlet for people’s depression or other emotions, cause the language learners always give the other people full attention, so an voice call would be like a free therapy :)

My university sent an email for all students, since it’s COVID-19 people may feel stressful and lonely and want to deliver their sadness of negative feelings to someone who can help, so yeah they have a very good group with psychology knowledge who can help them all to become stronger and reduce their pain, that’s a really good I’m proud and happy to know that some people really care about what others are going through.
