For my 2019 spring break trip, I had the opportunity to visit
Cartagena, Colombia. 🇨🇴Cartagena de Indias is a coastal city that played a very significant role in Colombia’s independence from Spain. The city also emerged as a major point of entry for African slaves. In fact, many say that the ancestors of all of Spanish South America’s black populations likely arrived through Cartagena. The architecture, music, language, food, and dances within its historic walled city is a melting pot of Spanish, Indigenous, and African culture. It is an incredible place to understand Afro-latino history and resistance to slavery & Spanish colonization. Of course, its beaches are wonderful too!
(please correct me if there are any mistakes, thank you ☺)
