안녕하세요 여러분!

오늘의 표현: whatever floats your boat
이 표현의 의미는 마음대로 하라는 의미입니다. 그래서 어떤 사람이 별로 중요하지 않은 선택을 고민할 때 할 수 있는 말입니다.

예문을 들어보겠습니다!
A: Instead of going to the park, I'm going to go to the movie theater.
B: Whatever floats your boat. Both sound fun.

A: I don't like cake so I'm going to buy ice cream.
B: Whatever floats your boat. I like both.

A: I think this color matches my clothes better. What do you think?
B: They're both good. Whatever floats your boat!

감사합니다!

@hwan Oh "up to you" is good too! Usually "whatever floats your boat" is used when the choice only affects the other person (who is making the choice). "Up to you" is often used when the choice will affect both of you, but you don't care what they choose. I hope that helps!

I think it sounds sweeter than just say "whatever" Is it right?

@Joy Yeah, it's a bit nicer than just "whatever!" Because it is a short phrase, "Whatever" can sound a little blunt, almost rude in some situations. You have to be be careful of your tone!! "Whatever floats your boat" is a bit lighter sounding. But both work :)

It indicates that 'I don't care about it. Do whatever you want' like bluntly? Or it mean a more way? ☺

@SangHyeok It means "It doesn't matter, choose whatever you want" in a light, casual way! It's a fun phrase! It's not blunt, but if you say it in a rude way it can sound rude. But it's usually positive!
