“I’m scary.”🧟‍♀️

I’m scared of snakes.” “Snakes are scary.”もOKです。
Unless you’re a monster, don’t say “I’m scary.” If you want to say “私が怖い”, it’s “I’m scared.”
If you want to say “私はエビが怖い」it’s “I’m scared of snakes.” “Snakes are scary” is also OK.

“I am fun.” 🤡
(I am a fun person.)
If you say this, it sounds like “I am a fun person.” If that’s your intended meaning, then “I am fun” is OK. If you want to express “私は楽しくやってる”, “I’m having fun” is the natural way to say it.

    To me, 私が怖い sounds “I’m scared of myself”. 難しいんですけど、僕ならI’m scared は 「怖い」と訳しますよ。 一方で、I’m scared of snakes は「私は蛇が怖い」とも言えますし、「蛇が怖い」とも言えます。 「蛇」のような目的語がない場合は主語を省略した方が自然ですよ😉 日本語は主語を省略した方が自然な事がよくありますからね😉

    @Oinko_Inc. 分かりました、ありがとう! So,「怖い」= 「私は怖い」(= 「I’m scared”」)、ね? Does this sound correct? ↓↓ ヘビが主語なら、「怖い!」と言えば、=(The snake is) scary!という意味になります。 一方で、「私」が主語なら、「怖い!」は((I am) scary!じゃなくて)「I am scared!」です。

    @Jぇイ ごめんなさい。 まず、主語と目的語の説明が上手くできてませんでした。 「私が怖い」と言うと、「(私は)私が怖い」というように聞こえます。 なので、 私が怖い sounds like “scared of myself” in Japanese and we usually omit the subject so it still works. 「怖い」と「私は怖い」は I’m scared と言えますけど、「私は怖い」は普段、口語としてはあまり聞かなくて、どちらかというと小説とか本の中で使われる文語のような感じに聞こえます。 あと、日本語では「怖い」という1つの単語を使っているので、「scared」と「scary」の区別は頭の中ではあまりしていなくて、僕の感覚だと、「怖い」はいつも「(I’m) scared」かもしれません。ヘビを見ながら「怖い」と言うと「(I’m) scared (of the snake)」です。 この「怖い」は主語も目的語も省略されてますね😅

    @Oinko_Inc. Thanks for the detailed explanation! I wasn’t sure if 「怖い!」meant “I’m scared!” or “Scary (snake)!”, like 「怖いヘビ!」. But it’s more like “I’m scared!”ね。I think saying “I’m scary” is a kind of common mistake so I wanted to write about it.

    @Jぇイ Yes, If I hear someone says “怖い”, I’d ask him “何が?” So you could say 怖い is more like “I’m scared”. Yeah, English learners often make that kind of mistakes. I’m boring. I’m surprising. etc. lol😁 Thank you for sharing the tip for us😉
