Today I got asked the type of

question I DON'T usually like answering.
What's the difference between "Whatever vs Whatsoever" ?

Why? First you need to know if there is a difference between the
words. And the quick answer is YES there is. Then you should STUDY
JUST ONE of the words and how to use them. If you are confused between
both words then mastering the use of one word at a time is the best
way to clear up any confusion you have.

Whatever - なんでも・なにも・なに＿＿＿っても・どうでもいい（Casual）

"Whatever happens I'll be there for you" - 何があっても僕はそばにいるよ！

Aさん：What do you want to drink?
Aさん：何か飲む？
Bさん：I'll have whatever you're having
Bさん：貴方と同じものでいいですよ（直訳：貴方の飲むならなんでもいいです）

"He had no money whatever" どんな種類のお金でもなんにもなかった
(あんまり言わないというか使わない方がいい）

Aさん：I'm totally over you and you should be too!! I'm breaking up with
you right now!!
Aさん：もう終わったよ私たち！！あんたも早く私の事を忘れて！！別れよう！！
Bさん：Whatever... You'll be groveling at my feet by tomorrow
Bさん：はいはい。。。どうせ明日になると僕の元へ戻るだろ、泣きながら
（ちょっとドラマチックな変な日本語ですみません（笑））

Whatsoever - 絶対的なネガティブな時にしか使わない　（＿＿も、＿＿でもなかった）
"There were no signs of life in the building whatsoever"
建物の中に生き物の気配は全くなかった

"I have no interest in Anime whatsoever"
アニメに少しだけの興味でも持ってません

Whatsoeverは古い英語とか「もう使わないよ」とか他のネイティブには言われるかもしれないけどそんな事はない！！ There is no
way you should believe anyone who thinks this　whatsoever!

    "He had no money whatever" どんな種類のお金でもなんにもなかった　これは本当に違和感するから使わないで（笑）ニュアンスを説明するために書いただけ😅もっと調べるひつょうがありそうです。

    "he had no money whatever" sounds so strange. I'd probably use "whatsoever" there 😑 Btw, google does say: that one of the meanings of "whatsoever" is : determiner · pronoun ARCHAIC whatever. "he would distribute the money among his partners in whatsoever proportion agreed previously"

    @Tanya I was kind of hoping you wouldn't comment on this post because now I have to rant more lol🤣🤣. I'm actually pissed off that the tip result Google shows is someone pretty much saying "Lol they're the same bro". And yes I agree. "No money whatever" sounds wrong on so many levels for me as well.... I'm gonna correct it. The second result for "whatever vs whatsoever" has a slightly better explanation in English describing the differences (I checked it to make sure I'm not going insane and that they are in fact different 😅🙏🏻). The next answer after the best answer was by a "grammar teacher" who wrote up an answer full of basic grammatical errors then gave even worse example sentences. I fear one day the English language will devolve into a bunch of clicks and grunting noises. I'll hopefully be gone by then 🤣

    @Tanya Oh right, before I forget. The giant words saying ARCHAIC were a slap in the face too. Google is clearly happy with making us all crayon eaters it would seem 😌

    @赤髭 ahahha, I'm sorry for commenting 😒😅 Actually, I didn't even need to click any links. If you google just the word, it shows in the header something like a dictionary entry for this word (but I don't know if they take the data from a proper dictionary). So, I googled both words to check what part of speech they were, because then you can infer about how the word can be used. So as expected "whatever" was a pronoun so it can replace a noun/object/other pronoun in the sentence ("whatever you say..." etc, whatever=anything). It can also be a determiner, hence it can come before a noun ("whatever words come out of his mouth..."). Whatsoever is an adverb so it modifies the verb or the phrase that works like a verb in a sentence.

    Unfortunately, in the google entry for "whatever" it also says that it can be an adverb with the same kind of usage as whatsoever, so it nullifies one's effort to explain the difference 😅 But the example "they received no help whatever" sounds just as strange as your example with money 😒 so probably, it's grammatically possible to say it but natives rarely use 'whatever' this way 🤔
