Idiom of the Day

“Labor of Love”

There are some things in life

that you enjoy doing greatly. It doesn’t matter if it costs money or takes up a lot of your time. You do it because you love it. In these situations, you would call it “a labor of love.”

For me, teaching is a labor of love. A student asked me, “Mr., what would you do if you didn’t teach?” And I told him I will always teach. Then he asked, “What if they put you in prison?”

I answered, “You are only changing the location of where I teach.” 😊❤️

I truly love helping all of you learn English. This is also a labor of love.

@Borabora what is a teacher if they do not also motivate, encourage, and discipline their students? Teachers that only give information are no better than a book or a blog on the internet. 😂 In ancient times, a shepherd would teach his sheep to listen to his words to bring them to water, food, or safety. If one was disobedient and ran into danger - maybe near wolves, - he would take a stick and break the sheep’s leg. Then the shepherd would carry the sheep on his back until the leg healed. He would keep the sheep near him all of the time, and would even feed the sheep out of his hand if necessary. Once healed, the sheep never strayed away again. I aspire to be a teacher like this. Not to break peoples’ legs of course! But to have a close and intimate relationship with my students. That they will listen to my voice and learn what I am teaching them. Because my words will bring them food, water, and safety from danger - if they will only listen to my words.

@Emad I would encourage you to give feedback to others. Offer them fair criticisms and give them encouragement. Maybe you can even offer examples of shows or videos to watch that helped you learn English. This will help you be a teacher. 😊 You do not have to feel like you are properly prepared. When I first began teaching, I was excited but very nervous. What helped the most was that I had practiced my content material for many years and I knew it well. I made mistakes of course, but my students were still thankful that I was helping them. Your language skill in English is superb. People have complimented it many times. I will help you with getting the resources you need to help others further. I can give you examples of videos that will help students learn how to make certain sounds. I want to help you become a teacher. You are prepared and ready for this. All you have to do is try. And I will be there to help you.

@Muhammad I would encourage you to listen to this person explain to you how to remove your accent. She makes very good points. I disagree with her that learning a language as an adult is harder than when you are a child though. But I agree with the rest of what she states here. https://youtu.be/98xTbqQAt54

@Abdul Latif Türkmen your speech has a heavy accent, but I can understand you. One correction I would like you to work on is the “th” sound. Please look at this link and practice. https://youtu.be/SVOnAI8ktKY
