I'm probably going to delete this post, but I feel like ranting

a little bit.

One thing I noticed about Hellotalk is there are a lot of people on here pretending to be British or American. I'll look on their profile and it'll say they are 100% fluent or a native speaker, but then I'll read their bio and realise that they're lying. What's worse is I'll see these "natives" correcting posts for other people and teaching them incorrect English. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Moral of the story: just be honest. 😂 If you're not a native speaker, don't pretend to be one.

It's true, I've seen these profiles, the worst thing is that they don't even speak English well.

@Patricia hahaha I'd feel bad calling anyone out in specific, but if you're wondering about someone on here, you can always ask me.

I agree with that thought, but your request is unrealistic. If a person is willing to deceive others, urging them to be honest may not work. Maybe there is no conscience there at all. Users themselves need to be cautious and not immediately trust everything anyone says. To be fair, I should add that true native speakers themselves are quite capable of making a lot of mistakes in their language.😊

@Eugene all excellent points, however... Natives do make a lot of mistakes with grammar as well, but it's all a matter of degree and what kind of mistakes they make. If you are a native speaker, it's easy enough to tell native speakers from non native speakers most of the time.

I agree that even by the nature of the errors you can identify the natives. Native speakers errors are different from non-native errors.

I agreed! But as an English learners, I find it's really difficult to know if someone are native speakers cuz my English is not good enough for that. It's sad. We are here to learn and exchange. Nobody wanna be taught by the wrong things. 😟😟😢😢
