Dia 1 de confinamiento (August 18)

Some people here on HelloTalk

mentioned that the decision made to put an entire country on lockdown over a single COVID case was just simply crazy and over the top. It worked for us before - 1 month of lockdown and we got a year and a half of complete freedom (no masks, no social distancing, and 0 community case). Ever since the pandemic began, we have only had a total of 26 deaths. Call it crazy or whatever you want, but we care for our people and work together as one to stop the transmission of COVID. 🤝

@Jas thank you for taking your time for replying. I appreciate it, and it is interesting to see how societies take different measurements to control the pandemic and maintain the economy working. So, by today, have increased the cases? Do you have the Delta variety?

@Chris Hi thanks for your questions. At the moment, the lockdown is for only 7 days, but it will most likely be extended depending on how many new cases emerge in the next few days. And yes, the whole country is in lockdown, meaning non essential businesses are closed (I.e. fast food chains, recreational centres, galleries, gyms, schools, etc). Only supermarkets, pharmacies, and food manufacturers are running with strict protocols in place. With regards to people coming in from other countries, at the moment, only those that are citizens and permanent residents of New Zealand are allowed in to the country with one condition - they have to isolate for 14 days in a hotel facility managed by the NZ border control. Australians were allowed to travel here without isolating, but that agreement was unfortunately suspended due to the rising cases in Australia.

Well, this is just impossible for all the countries, because of their politics and its economical situation. It's not just a moral or ethical decision. Here in Mexico we have a very weak economy, and we produce a lot of rawl materials for a lot of places. The same occurs for other countries. We cannot afford a strong lockdown, unfortunately.

Here since tomorrow our country will not have any city in total quarantine. Only some cities the restrictions will be on weekends.

La mejor decisión!! Si todos pensaran así ya se abría terminado esto ....😔😔😔😓😓

Well done NZ!! You are definitely doing it right, unlike where I am in Sydney…

I live in Melbourne Australia and I'm completely sure that it works. We're in lockdown with curfew here as well (for the 6th time). But it's great that we were free for so long as well

I think you have the best strategy, here in Mexico everything is bad because the government never do things like that. If someone wants to came to Mexico, they don't need to proof anything, no COVID-19 test or vaccine are required.

Hola! Cuántos días de confinamiento serán? En todo el país? Por qué. O aislar solo la persona infectada y cómo piensan controlar nuevos casos importados?
  • Cristian Cubas

I wish people thought that way in my country.
  • Ronald

    That's is amazing.
