Here’s a tip for Spanish speakers: Many people say “I have a

doubt”, which is think is like saying “tengo una duda”.

But we don’t say that in English. You should say “I have a question.”

Pero duda en español no es pregunta/question/ duda es algo que ya se sabe pero no se está seguro.

I always say "I have a doubt" 😄 It's because we are translating literally from Spanish. It's good to know this, thanks for sharing.

@Alby oh ok. Maybe it’s just that we don’t use the phrase that way, or we don’t have that distinction. Whenever I see a spanish speaker say “I have a doubt”, it should be “I have a question”.

Ok, I understand. But now I have a question: when do you use the word doubt?

@Beatriz When you are not sure about something. Like: “Will it rain tomorrow?” “I doubt it.” Or: “I think I will make a million dollars this year, but my friends doubt it.”

@Joe Butler so, doubt is a ver, not a noun

@Beatriz it can be both. For example “I have my doubts about him.” means like “I’m not sure he’s a good person.”
