Hello all! My name is Dustin. I’m a microbiologist and have spent

most of my research and academic years on viruses 🦠. Dedicating most of my time to common colds and the flu.

Currently, I still work in this field, and cannot believe the hysteria that has come out of COVID-19. Major health agencies who are supposed to have your best interest at mind are also buying into this , and it really saddens me.

If you have any questions about this “outbreak”, please feel free to reach out to me on here, and I will give you an honest answer not influenced by the media or mass hysteria.

The outbreak is really severe in China. It has become more and more severe In Korean and Italy. The only thing I don’t understand is why when Chinese students wore face masks in the UK or some other countries they were beaten by locals. It’s unbearable. I do understand there is a cultural shock. I know people in other countries think wearing masks means already being ill. But for us, wearing masks is only a safety precaution and we all do it right now in China because we don’t want to get infected. And it is also a responsible action to ensure not to spread the virus to others if someone is getting infected with but does not know at that time.

@Patricia wearing masks do not prevent you from infections though... it’s to stop the spread of moisture when coughing and sneezing and causing other people to be ill. I understand culturally that China/Asia wears masks more frequently than the western world. China’s number of cases is still statistically very low compared to the overall number of people living in China. I would almost bet my life that if you counted the number of people who have died since December of the flu, it would be much larger than the COVID-19. This variation of the cold was discovered over 50 years ago and is quite common.

@Patricia To put it in a better perspective, the flu kills over 500,000 people a year being mainly the elderly, very young, and people with weaken/compromised immune systems every single year. Why do we not have this type of hysteria every flu season? H1N1 and 5H5N1 are serious diseases that kill young healthy people, this particular disease follows the path of more “common” since it only attacks the 3 groups mentioned above. Just my opinion, I very well could be wrong, and the world as we know it is coming to an end.

And by the way you know the official statistics is not real right? Government covered the truth. Only doctors who’re currently in Wuhan know the truth.

@Patricia I’m sorry for the racism that is coming out of this. I am trying to educate as many people as possible that this is certainly not China’s fault even 1% lol. This disease has existed and I would bet has impacted every country at some point or another. People are just ignorant and look for places/people to hate. It’s horrible...

@Patricia I know the truth because there is a ton of data on this already lol. This disease isn’t new and it’s very common. The common cold has been around a really really long time.

@Dustin pneumonia is not new I know,,, back to years ago. The problem is it is way too infectious, and there is no effective medicine right now. When get infected ppl have to rely on their own immune systems. That’s terrible for the elderly and children.

@Patricia that’s the same for the cold and flu every single year. This is nothing new.

@Dustin really? Maybe our tech is not advanced but I’ve heard thousands of hundreds of ppl die. Definitely much more than ten thousand ppl in china.

Hi @Dustin So what is the difference between this "new" virus with flu and cold?

Why do you think this is the same one and haven't evolve over this time? How long takes the virus to develop? By the way the flu is not a disease that could transmit between animals and humans. It is not a similar with this virus. What chemical features do you think this virus had developed to could be contagious between all species?

My questions is this; If this virus is similar to other virus...why are we taking more precautions..than with a tipical virus? Why don't they tell us that although there are many people infected...the most of them are cured? Why are they clipping all the services of the cities: hospitals, schools....... If we don't do it with the other virus...why we have to? Thanks in advance for your explanations😁

Thank you for your explanations! However, I think mass hysteria, general lack of knowledge and education, and "just in case.." are harder to beat than any virus. It is really warming to see calm people trying to put some order to this chaos, tho. Thanks!👍👍

@Paula.. from my point of view we have ignorant political leaders, informing the population of the exact measures would be enough, but they have created a psychosis that is lowering the population's immune system due to fear, and this can actually increase the sick , it is painful.
