In Turkish language, Hindistan means India.

And Coconut is called

as Hindistan Cevizi.

Why is that so? 🤔

Did Turkey and India have "coconut connection" in the past?

Btw, are there coconut trees in Turkey?

Here are some beautiful pics of coconut trees.

Çünkü amerikayı keşfedenler hindistana gitmek istiyorlardı keşiften sonra öğrenilen birçok şeye hintlilerden yola çıkarak isim verilmiş. Hindistan cevizi gibi hindi gibi

There is a story about coconut. There was a conversation between a prisoner to be executed and the grand vizier in the Ottoman period .The prisoner said he would bring a fruit that even a sword could not cut and the grand vizier also accepted this .Prisoner went to India and brought coconut.Nobody could cut the fruit and the fruit was called grand vizier walnut at that time.Grand viziership was abolished when passed to the republic . The name of the fruit has changed and has become coconut(Hindistan cevizi). it's just a story, I'm not sure it's true
  • Beyza 2020.10.11 10:02
