During my four years so far living in Japan, my love was born for kokeshi. These traditional wooden dolls have captured my fascination many times with their gentle expressions and painted flowers.

リサイクル店でこの楽しいおもちゃの豊かさからすると一昔前日本でこけしの黄金時代がきっとあったみたいです。作人たちはどんな格好でもどんな大きさでもを想像して木製で彫刻しました。わたしには珍しくて個性的なこけしを探すのが特に楽しいです。
Judging from the abundance of this fun toy in recycle shops, I can imagine that there must have been a golden age of kokeshi in the past. Artisans imagined kokeshi in countless shapes and sizes and then carved them in wood. It’s really fun for me to search for the rare and unique looking ones!

自分のコレクションも始まりました。特に豆こけしが好きです。一番ちっちゃいのは指の爪先の大きさです。レモンのように格好付けているこけしも可愛くて楽しいこけしと思います。
I have even started my own collection! I especially like miniature ones. My smallest one is just the size of a fingertip! I also find the ones dressed as lemons have a cute and playful design.
